How can we protect our eyes?
Sunglasses have long been associated with celebrities primarily from a desire to mask their identity and since the 1940s sunglasses have been popular as a fashion accessory! Today, however, sunglasses have become a necessity and offer our eyes protection from the sun's glaring rays.
Sunglasses needn't be expensive, however, not all glasses offer the adequate amount of protection, so when you're out shopping for sunglasses, choose a pair that has one of the following criteria:
- the 'CE Mark' and British Standard (BS EN 1836:1997)
- a UV 400 label
- a statement that the sun glasses offer 100% UV protection
- lenses are perfectly matched in colour
- lenses are free of distortion and imperfection
Another pointer to bear in mind is large lenses offer good protection, and broad wraparound arms are also important against "stray light" from the sides. Furthermore, according to Cancer Research UK, wearing a wide-brimmed hat can reduce the amount of UV rays reaching your face and eyes by more than 50%.
Glasses Frames and Lenses unique Sun Wrap polarised sun lenses have been specifically designed using asphericity to adjust the Optical Centres to the correct position for sports sunglasses, wrap or oversized sunglasses.
