How to Add Maps to your car GPS navigation
Over the past years, technology has brought us some of the most intelligent, powerful devices, which are useful in numerous ways. One such device is the Portable GPS. The sheer genius of this device is to transform each of us into extraordinary navigators. It is also a great ego-preserver for men, who will never have to refuse to ask for directions again. They can be customized to your travel purposes by adding maps, and personalizing it for your travel adventures. Read on to learn how to add maps to a GPS.
① Choose Your Maps
Step 1
Decide how you want to add maps to your GPS navigation. You can scan and upload the maps, download them from the Internet, or purchase a software package or data card with preloaded maps.
Step 2
Choose one of the two main options on your GPS--scan or upload--for adding new or additional maps to the device.
Step 3
Use one of the methods below to add maps to your GPS device.
②Add Maps Using a Pre-Loaded Data Card
Step 1
Purchase a data card that has the maps of the particular area you want. There are many different versions and editions of U.S. regional maps and European nations.
Step 2
Slip the data card into its allotted slot, being sure to snap it in all the way without forcing it n place. Switch on your GPS. The program will automatically load onto the device.
Step 3
Browse the maps you want. You may be able to browses specific locations by keyword on some applications.
③Add Maps by Scanning and Uploading Maps
Step 1
Scan the desired driving map or map of the area you want onto your scanner. Place the map on the scanner with the top oriented north.
Step 2
Save the map to your computer as a bitmap file. This is a format that uses up the least memory, but you may also save it as a .gif or .jpeg file or other format compatible with the GPS device.
Step 3
From the center of the map, draw diagonal lines over the map going from north to south, so that they intersect in the center. Next, determine the longitude and latitude of the center point as accurately as you can.
Step 4
Save the file as a bitmap after determining its position/once you complete this step. Save the file once again, this time changing the file format from bitmap to a text file, and add this HTML code at the end of it: <|LT:12.34567|LN:-23.45678|LS:12345>. Save this new file with the file extension ".htm"
Step 5
Open a new folder in your GPS device. Upload both the bitmap file and the text file into the new folder on the GPS device. To view the uploaded map, just click on the file menu and choose the map.
