Custom Water Walls – Selecting the right Type for you
There are two basic types of custom water wall available: The water source and re-circulating fountains. Therefore, which type of system is suited for your needs depend on how much water you are going to use. Other factors include the rate of water loss due to evaporation and possible splashing if it is an outdoor water wall.
The most popular and common type of wall fountain is the re-circulating mounted wall. This type of wall fountain is ideal for the home and office use. The water circulates through a pump. A reservoir holds the water until it is re-circulated back into the fountain. This type of fountain is easily installed anywhere and it does not require an additional source of water to operate.
The next type of custom water wall is the dedicated wall fountain. Used with larger fountains installed in public places such as a courtyard, façade of a building, etc. The dedicated wall fountain is also known as the commercial fountains because it can hold thousands of gallons of water (the minimum requirement of water per day is 100 gallons). The installation of these custom water wall fountains requires a professional who is knowledgeable about installing fountains.
Most custom water walls work well with any design. Fountains found in Italian villas are also suitable for offices and retail shops provided there is enough space. It is important to understand how the mechanics work with these types of fountain. Look at the plan and decide whether the fountain is going blend with the rest of the design plan. How to Install a Custom Water Wall
Ideally, installing a custom water wall requires a two-person team or more but depending on your strength and expertise, you can probably swing it on your own – you will be the judge.
- Install a GFI electric outlet in the wall where you are going to install the fountain.
Hire an electrician to install the outlet for you depending on your electrical skills. Keep in mind that the outlet for the hanging wall fountain should be behind the center of the piece and not towards the bottom or the hood. For a double or triple panel style fountain, try placing the outlet behind the stone farther to the left. If you decide to install an outlet behind a stone then it's best to also install an extra wall switch so that you can turn the stone off without having to physically pull the plug from the outlet every time.
One way to hide the electrical wires is to place a plant right by the wall fountain. You can hide the cord in this manner and avoid cluttering up the area. Water walls install easily on all kinds of walls - cinder block or even metal but never hang a wall fountain using just sheet rock or plaster, as these materials are not sturdy enough to hold the fountain's weight.
Usually, smaller hanging wall fountains do not require any special installation. Only larger fountains require assembly and they are not difficult to assemble. Some of these wall fountains come pre-assembled - all you do is to nail the brackets evenly.
