Caring For Your Skin In Your Twenties

It is during your twenties that the effects of aging usually take their toll. Though you wouldn't necessarily have to deal with too many wrinkles and age spots, you still have a problem with the environmental factors that may hasten the aging process. Such factors include pollution, dust, and most of all, the sun. These things may be inevitable but if you know the secret to caring for a skin as young as yours, you will have no difficulty at all looking and feeling young all the time.

The sun is the largest contributor of damage to the human skin. Too much sun exposure results in the disruption of melanin production, which eventually leads to different signs of aging such as liver spots. The best way to prevent sun damage is obviously to minimize your exposure to the sun. You can do that by wearing sunscreen with SPF 15 to guard your skin against harmful ultraviolet light. Or, if possible, always wear protective clothing such as long sleeved shirts, a large hat, and an umbrella.

Dryness of skin can be a sign of aging especially if don't naturally have a dry skin type. This is because as you age, the skin slowly loses its ability to retain moisture. What results is a skin that looks dull, with flakes and sometimes, dark spots and patches. To make up with lost moisture, see to it that you drink plenty of water every day. Along with most fruits and vegetables, water gives your skin that glow that it always had when you were younger.

Two factors that can lead to premature aging are smoking and drinking. Do you know that underneath your skin are small blood vessels that can also clog due to the effects of smoking? Smoking can result to a limited supply of blood and oxygen to the skin making it appear dull, rough, and older-looking. Alcohol can have similar effects too, not to mention that it can dehydrate the skin and make it look puffy. To make the story short, cut back on your alcohol intake and get rid of your smoking habit.

Although an in-depth use of certain skin care products is not as necessary during your twenties as it is in your forties, you might still want to develop a skin care system to maintain your skin's health. Focus especially in keeping your skin clean by unclogging pores of dirt through facial scrubbing and cleansing. Moreover, try to get a facial at least once a month to prevent acne breakout.

Finally, maintain a well-balanced diet loaded with vitamin A, C, and E-rich fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants from these foods will fight the aging effects caused by free radicals. It's true that genes and hormones can determine the type of skin that you have, but with proper skin care, you can make your skin beautiful at all times regardless of these things.
