1997 Saturn Low collant light issue?
Hi, I have a 1997 Saturn Sc1, 1.9L SOHC 5 spd manual. With a coolant problem. a radiator i installed last december just blew, ironically in the same fasion as the first radiator, but now i just run it until the coolant light comes on and top it off. Well i topped it off today and the light didnt want to shut off, I dont beleive its the sensor because The coolant indicator light uses the same sensor as the coolant temp guage and my temp guage seems to be working fine. any ideas?
Oh, i made the assumtion because in the Haynes manual, Both feeds into the light come from the Coolant temp sensor, I must've read the wiring diagram wrong. And to my surprise it didnt come on today. so i guess it was just stuck in the down position.
Wrong assumption. Your coolant level sensor has nothing to do with your temp gauge sender.
The low coolant level sensor is in the pressurized coolant reservoir bottle. It uses a small foam float and a magnetic sensor to monitor the coolant level. The plug is at the bottom of the reservoir.
They like to stick in the down position on GM vehicles.
Take your fist and pound on the reservoir a few times and see if the light goes out.
If not then the sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.
