Tom Tom and other Sat Nav devices?
Are Tom Tom's generally considered the best portable units for your car? I also just wonder what the difference is between all their different models? I was looking to get a low cost unit just for the UK and ROI for when I'm going some place unfamiliar and I can't stop to read my road atlas. I don't like those rubber suckers though and I am wondering if its possible to get an accessories for these devices so you can mount it on your air vents instead? What is your opinion of the Tom Toms and other makes like Navman, Garmin etc?
I like the Garmin nuvi 200. It's inexpensive and has some helpful features. I have used it for a cross country trip here in the US. I used it's address to address feature as well as the 'point of interest' to find restaurants, hotels and fuel stations. It not only gives the address of the store but distance and the phone # so you can make reservations or find out if they have the type of fuel you need. (we were using diesel) I've also used it for trips into and out of the rocky mountains on day trips when I was working in Denver, CO. Very useful tool indeed. As for mounting accessories other than the suction cup I haven't seen anything for vent mounting, I would think the vents could break if you encounter a bumpy stretch of road. Good luck to you.
